This unique design feature and easy handling provide high quality and reproduceable pH data for liquid, semisolid and nonideal samples. Quick response, long life and the option of temperature correction are added bonuses.

The GATionode® IJ consists of upper and lower electrolyte chambers joined by a porous wick which does not contact the sample. The upper chamber is gel filled and separated from the sample by a slightly flexible plastic sleeve which contains the lower sleeve electrolyte. The sleeve electrolyte is static and movement of ions into the sample is by diffusion only. The sleeve slides along the glass pH stem and can easily be removed for cleaning, a process taking only seconds.

Shortcomings in conventional
electrode design belong to the past!

The most common problem affecting the accuracy and reproducibility of potentiometric measurements is the contamination of the contact zone between the reference electrolyte and the sample. Conventional electrodes rely on a constant flow of reference through a porous constriction to ensure a clean contact zone.
Non-ideal samples e.g. low buffer capacity, samples containing oils, fats, proteins or suspended solids, or extreme pH´s may produce residual potentials due to a contaminated contact zone. This can be obscured with the usual buffer calibration. Conventional gel references can also be expected to develop very significant errors in non-ideal samples. The age and condition of the glass membrane may also affect the electrode performance by decreasing the slope and increasing the response time.

 

Is your present pH electrode reliable?
With this simple test you can check the performance of your pH electrode.

                         1. Calibrate with NBS Buffer 6.86 at 25°C
                         2. Set slope with Buffer pH 4.01.
                         3. Dilute 1 part of Buffer 6.86 with 9 parts distilled water.

You should obtain 7,06      0,02.

If not, you should order the new GATionode® Intermediate Junction Electrode with or without temperature probe.


Why a GATionode® IJ ?

No silver precipitation in the diaphragm for de-ionized water, sulphide containing liquors or „Tris“ buffer.

 
A bridge with potassium chloride free of silver ions eliminates this known interference.


 
Stable junction potentials with samples containing suspended matter, emulsions, and water with low conductivity.


 
The IJ contains a special ground sleeve diaphragm.
This minimizes spurious junction potentials at the contact zone.
